To the Members of La Guilde des Musiciens et Musiciennes du Qu\u00e9bec, Local 406, AFM:<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The leadership of the Guild will be conducting a referendum to disaffiliate from the AFM.<\/b><\/p>\n

What\u2019s important to us? Continued access to the P2 permits to work in the United States?\u00a0 Having the symphony strike fund at our back when we\u2019re negotiating a new contract with management?\u00a0 Our solid pension with the Musicians\u2019 Pension Fund of Canada?<\/p>\n

If we can answer \u201cyes\u201d to even one of these questions, then, for the sake of our livelihoods and our families\u2019 security, we must say \u201cno\u201d to the Guild leadership\u2019s short-sighted plan to take Local 406 out of the AFM.<\/p>\n

Why?<\/p>\n

Because if the Guild goes, those benefits and more could no longer be available.<\/p>\n

As members of Local 406 of the AFM, we have the best of both worlds.\u00a0 Local 406 negotiates with us and for us for our work in Qu\u00e9bec, while the AFM secures our work and our benefits in the rest of Canada and the US.\u00a0 If the Guild leadership\u2019s plan succeeds, one of those worlds \u2013 the larger one \u2013 disappears.<\/p>\n

Labour is under attack globally.\u00a0 Negative forces are at work that want to divide us so that they can exploit us.<\/p>\n

Music is the one, single unifying language of the world, and we are the standard-bearers of that language.\u00a0 We must work to stay together \u2013 not to separate \u2013 so that as one strong union, each one of us \u2013 and all of us together \u2013 can retain our strength and secure the benefits that we, who are so vital to an enlightened society, deserve.<\/p>\n
